"Leave
a hole 'cos you never know when you might
want one...useful things holes"
THE face
of Maisie Dobbs is actually the face of Janet Hoch Harrison.
I have no idea why Maisie author Jacqueline Winspear chose this
particular face to launch her inter-war heroine, but it is a fine
choice, hard though it will be to follow when the books are filmed.
Janet Hoch was among the radio/TV pioneers in America in the 1920s,
so I guess that makes Maisie a cousin rather than a true Brit.
She worked for WLEX, a radio station in Lexington, as a pianist,
singer and later programme director. She married broadcaster Gerry
Harrison.
According to the tvhistory
website, Mrs Hoch Harrison lays claim to being the first woman on
TV in America.
